SCARRING

There are various types of scars that require individualized treatment. Age and how long you have had the scar or scars may affect the type of treatment we recommend for you. Acne scars are one of the most common types of scars people seek treatment for. They can occur on the face, chest, and even the back, and approximately 80% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 will experience some sort of acne and scarring.

Acne scars are the result of inflammation from acne blemishes. The acne pore swells and breaks down the wall of the pore - when the contents of blemishes spill into the surrounding tissue, deep scars occur as new collagen fibers are formed. Acne scars often take on two forms: an indentation in the surface of the skin, or a scar that is raised on the surface of the skin.

While stretch marks don’t require any treatment, they are a type of scarring that many people seek to reduce in appearance and texture. Stretch marks are caused by just that - stretch of the skin. Stretch marks can be caused from a variety of factors, including:

  • Being pregnant

  • Being female

  • Genetics

  • Rapid growth in adolescence

  • Rapidly gaining or losing weight

  • Using corticosteroids

  • Having breast enlargement surgery

  • Exercising and using anabolic steroids
